Directions by road
Portmeirion is located in the North West corner of
Wales, facing the Irish Sea. From many US and
European cities there are direct flights to
Manchester or Birmingham. Car hire is available at
both Airports.
A regular rail service runs from London, Euston to
Bangor, which takes 4 hours on a good day. A taxi
from Bangor station will take 50 minutes to reach
Portmeirion.
Driving from Manchester airport, the easiest route
is along the A55 expressway to Llandudno Junction
and then south up the Conwy valley for Blaenau
Ffestiniog and Porthmadog.
From LONDON take the M1 then the M6 until just north
of BIRMINGHAM turn off on the M54 which in turn
leads onto the A5. Follow the A5 until just beyond
CORWEN when you need to turn off onto the A494 for
BALA. At Bala you turn right (i.e. West) onto the
A4212 for TRAWSFYNYDD and PORTHMADOG. Follow signs
for Porthmadog. Portmeirion is 2 miles East of
Porthmadog, signposted from the main road at
MINFFORDD, just past the village of PENRHYNDEUDRAETH.
